Studio-Paint

Art Standards:
1PR Demonstrate beginning skill and craftsm
3PR Explore and use a range of subject matter to create original works of art.
4PR Create an artwork based on observation of familiar objects and scenes.
5PR Use selected art and design elements and principles to explore ideas, feelings and relationships.

Artist Statement:

I drew my family for this artist statement (minus my three puppies). I drew our lake house, with the water in the way back and the sun. I chose orange to go over the oil crayons with paint. I chose orange because like in my last art portfolio, I love sunsets and sunsets at the lake are one of my favorites, because that means great summer dinners and fires with s'mores.  I have one older brother, Tyler, and one twin brother, Austin. My family means the most to me and I consider them some of my best friends, so this drawing means a lot (even if the quality stick figures do not look amazing). All of my brothers and my dad have blonde hair, while my mom and I have brown hair. Some of our best memories are at Clear Lake, Indiana. We are on the boat a ton throughout the summer, going to the island, skiing, tubing, and much more. For first grade, students would love to draw their family. It would be so creative for them because they would draw how they feel about them and how they see them personally. The background the students draw would also tell where their favorite place to be at with their family. Also, students could even draw their friends or extended family, not just their immediate, so it gives them endless possibilities. My artwork was straight to the point, whereas for first graders they could really draw whatever, as long as it has to do with relationships with people/places/things. It lines to the standards above almost directly. They get to create an artwork based on observation and familiar things using their senses and at first grade; they may start to get a sense of family and relationships. They also can show their feelings by colors, where they placed their family, who they added in, who they did not draw, etc., and it is their own original artwork. A lesson I could implement would be family history. I could have them research their grandmas/grandpas, and have them ask their family members questions about where they came from and where they grew up. One area that could be difficult with this lesson is sensitivity to family. Some children may have a hard time picking people to draw, they could have a bad home life or feel like they may not have anyone to draw. In that case, I could give them other options.

Tech Task

I used storyboard for my art tech task. This app was so easy to use, you could use any place setting, outside, inside, park, plane, bus, car, really an endless amount of possibilities. You can pick any type of person, change any aspect of them, hair, shoes, outfit, etc. This is a great tool for students to use, preferably second grade or older, because it could be hard to navigate for younger students. I would look more into the visual art standards for grades 2-4. They need to understand meaning and emotions and many other ideas.

I picked Ed Sheeran as my artist, because students first off, need to realize that artists come in many forms, not just artist in books or as illustrators. Music is a huge aspect of art, and is something almost every student is connected to. Ed Sheeran is so inspiring because he started singing in the streets of his home (which is what I made above, and then went to parks, and finally made it to big concert halls and etc.) So the students can also find someone they find inspiring like I did. He did not come from a famous family, he had to work his way up from nothing. This tool makes comics, and I mentioned above some of the things you can do with it and what all you can change and rearrange. On top of what was already mentioned, you can also search people, ideas, places and so on. I made mine simple, but you can use dialogue and facial expressions. The characters are so up to date on technology and resources like texting and phones. Really, you can make any comic imaginable, you can make up a story, read a book to your students and have them make it themselves. Going off of that, if they read a story they liked in Language Arts, they could make a comic based off of that story. Or they read about a story in history and then they can make comics based on that, etc. There is an endless amount of ways to integrate this, which makes it so cool and useful! The students could most definitely make their own artifacts (mentioned above). It is easy to use because of the top bar and you can pick any color or object etc, everything basically pops up itself. (already mentioned above what could make it difficult). Other than that, it is pretty easy to use, and the only challenging part would be for younger students being able to navigate the site. It helps with creativity, because of the endless amount of possibilities.

    • Kindergarten.
      Standards:
1PE Describe the meaning in the marks they make on paper.
3PE Describe different ways that an artwork expresses an emotion or mood.
7RE Recognize that people have different opinions and responses to works of art. 8RE Consider and talk about why people make and enjoy works of art.
      Artist statement:
I drew water and a sunset, because the ocean and sunsets are one of my top favorite things to see and be around. When I visit Mexico, I get up at 5 am some days and just watch the sunrise, and of course watch it set later that day. I love sunny days, not only because they put my in a good mood, but because it literally brightens up almost everyone’s day. I use the three primary colors, red, yellow, and blue. It fit perfectly for my sunset and ocean. I used oil pastels and a notebook to draw this, as shown below. Just looking at this picture makes me happy. Kindergarteners are just learning about colors, and have a remote idea, of which is which. At this point, they learned about primary colors and what makes them primary. In kindergarten, the students need certain standards dealing with art. I chose a few above that I would focus on. Firstly, obviously they need to know that art and markings on a paper and what it means. I would give them unlimited ideas and ways they could draw, for example, for these primary colors I would want them to focus on drawing something that makes them happy, which deals with emotions and how colors can represent emotions. They would only be allowed to use these three colors, but that still gives them freedom to draw almost anything. I will give them limited directions, just draw with these three colors and draw something you enjoy or that makes you happy. When it comes to art, students do not have to have a bunch of set rules or guidelines, they should have the freedom to draw what they want, so they can be as creative as possible without having strict rules. One problem students may have with this is implementing all three colors. Yellow and orange are usually more happy colors, so they may have a hard time using blue to represent something happy as well, because it could also stand for sad or angry or etc. So I would challenge my students to use all three colors to represent happiness or something positive.

Tech Task

Canv. This tool allows you to find any picture that you want without having to Google them, and endless amount of different fonts, videos, and so on. It's so easy to use; anyone would be capable of using it, even a first or second grader. The link above is the website in the beginning of the blog (named Canv) and the link below this paragraph is what I made with this app. In my future classroom, I could make up a fun slideshow for my students or even have them make up one themselves and share it with the class. The students could get in a group and each has one season and make up a slide over the information for each weather climate they were assigned. I liked this tool, not only because of the many features, but it helps with creativity and allows you to personalize it exactly the way you want to, it always obviously allows a lot of creativity and outside thinking. When you first start using it shows you step by step and even gives you different presentation examples and views. The only downside is that certain pictures or features cost $1. It could challenge student because they would have to research information and come up with the correct answers and observations. It is the same amount of fun as it is a learning experience and beneficial. Overall, this tool was very useful and I definitely could see myself using this in the future over PowerPoint or Google Slides.
